In this article, we have provided for you everything you need to know about studying petroleum engineering in Australia including the top Australian universities that offer this degree.

What is Petroleum Engineering?

Petroleum engineering is a discipline of engineering which involves activities related to production and extraction of hydrocarbons such as natural gas and crude oil. It is the practical application of physics and mathematics with chemistry and geology combined with principles of economics and engineering to recover petroleum.

What do Petroleum Engineers do?

Petroleum engineers basically help find oil and gas for the country by designing drill equipment and developing methods for the extraction of oil and gas from deposits beneath the surface of the Earth.

Petroleum Engineers often work with geologists. Apart from the production of oil and gas, petroleum engineers also design computer simulations to predict the flow of petroleum on the site and areas, which is why they are referred to as the right hand of oil and gas companies. This is because petroleum engineers are the individuals who help in the extraction of petroleum and make it a good fit for human use.

Petroleum engineers often work in labs doing research. However, they also spend some of their time working on sites when given the notice, or even for months if the site is an offshore oil rig.

Listed below are the typical responsibilities of a petroleum engineer;

  • Selecting and maintaining equipment
  • Predicting extraction risks, such as potential earthquakes
  • Analysing geological data to identify resource potential
  • Planning and supervising extraction sites
  • Monitoring and evaluating reservoir performance
  • Using specialised computer applications and mathematical models to maximise production
  • Preparing reports and maps

Which Body Accredits Petroleum Engineering in Australia?

Petroleum Engineering programs, much like other engineering programs, are accredited by the Institute of Engineers Australia, and evaluated by the Australian Engineering Accreditation Centre (AEAC). Accreditation ensures the recognition of the degree locally and internationally, in countries such as Canada, New Zealand, Hong Kong, the UK and also the US. This is particularly important for graduates because it allows them to gain employment throughout the world.

What is the Average Salary for Petroleum Engineers in Australia?

The average median salary for petroleum engineers in Australia is approximately AU$121,343 per year. The annual salary can however range from as low as AU$66,000 to as high as AU$195,000

An entry level petroleum engineer is expected to earn AU$78,297 per year on average while those with 5-9 years of experience earn an average total of AU$128,482 annually.

Everything You Need to Know About Studying Aviation in Australia

Sharing is caring :)

What is Aviation?

At one point or another, you must’ve wondered what it would feel like to have a career that requires you to fly high in the skies. In layman’s terms, Aviation is the study of the science behind designing and flying aircraft.

10 Different Fields of Aviation

Despite common misconceptions, a career in Aviation does not necessarily mean you will become a pilot. Here are all 10 different fields of Aviation you could potentially dive into explained :

#1. Aerospace Engineering

Aerospace engineering deals with all aspects of designing and building machines that operate in the air. These engineers also work to test different prototypes to make sure that they function accordingly. Aerospace engineers design individual components for the aircraft such as the engineers, airframes, wings, landing gear, control systems and instruments. They also test the strength, reliability and durability of these components or as a whole aircraft.

#2. Air Traffic Control

Air traffic control is a service provided in ensuring the safety of aircraft, pilots, flight attendants and passengers. Air traffic controllers are usually ground-based and communicate with pilots throughout the entire flight, providing information back and forth between incoming and outgoing flights to ensure the safe flow of all flights in the sky and avoiding any sort of collision.

#3. Aircraft Maintenance

Aircraft maintenance is the task required in maintaining the quality of the aircraft which includes ensuring the airworthiness of the aircraft by overhauling, inspection, replacement, defect rectification and the embodiments of modifications. Regular maintenance of the aircraft will extend the aircraft life to ensure that the aircraft will perform safely for an extended period of time.

#4. Aviation Management

Aviation management is the operation of airlines, airports, aircraft manufacturers and any business related to the aerospace industry. Activities such as planning, designing, operating and maintaining aircraft and airports will be conducted. You will be provided with a deep understanding of both the land-side and air-side daily operations of running an aviation business.

#5. Aviation Safety

Aviation safety refers to the tasks of ensuring aeroplanes are free from any form of injury or loss. This industry is in direct support of the operation of aircraft, which are reduced and controlled to an acceptable level. Careers in aviation safety include aviation safety inspectors and aviation safety technicians.

#6. Cabin Crew

Cabin crew are responsible for the comfort, safety and welfare of passengers travelling on aircraft during short-haul and long-haul flights. Their roles and responsibilities include the participation in preflight briefings with pilots, conduction of preflight inspections of emergency equipment, demonstrating the use of safety and emergency equipment, ensuring passengers have met safety requirements; serving and selling food and drink; attending to passengers’ needs; reassuring passengers during the flight; administering and coordinating emergency medical care as necessary; and providing directions to passengers, including evacuation orders.

#7. Civil & Military Aviation

Civil aviation includes all non-military aviation, including private and commercial flying. Passenger, cargo, private and commercial flights fall under civil aviation. However, military aviation is the complete opposition and referees to the use of military aircraft and other flying machines to conduct aerial warfare.

#8. Pilot Training

Pilots fly and navigate aeroplanes, helicopters and other aircraft. Besides the typical becoming an aircraft pilot, you can also consider becoming a helicopter pilot. With this, you can work and be employed by a variety of employers such as the government, tourism companies, offshore support or even under emergency medical services.

#9. Flight Instruction

Flight instructors for aviation resemble teachers for schools. Flight instructors teach aspiring pilots how to fly using a combination of classroom simulators, and live flight instructions. These real-life simulations aid students in gaining the skills and knowledge needed with the feeling of flying a real plane without actually flying a real plane.

#10. Aviation Transport

Aviation transportation is otherwise known as aviation logistics, this field is an incredibly crucial part of the global economy. They facilitate integration into the global economy and provide vital connectivity. It helps to generate trade, promotes tourism and creates employment opportunities.

Before considering picking a specific niche field to study, it is important for you to look into the academic and professional requirements needed in order to pursue the career after taking your degree.

A small portion of the data breach could result in a disastrous effect on the company and also the country.

Besides that, individuals also face many cyber threats as well. Identity theft is a global issue, where hackers steal an individual’s personal information and sell it for cash rewards. Hackers use various approaches to steal individual identity and demand ransom. Camera devices are vulnerable for hackers to invade individuals’ household privacy, which is also a major concern for our society.

Types of Cyber Security

Types of Cyber Security Threat

Phishing

Phishing attacks use fake communication such as text message or email to trick a victim in opening it and steal the victim data such as credit card numbers and login information. This results in identity theft, funds robbery, or unauthorized purchases for the victim.

Malware

Malware is a type of code that is made to affect a computer system without the users’ consent to gain access to personal information or to damage the device. Examples of malware include spyware, viruses and worms.

SQL Injection

Structured Query Language (SQL) injection employs malicious code to exploit backend databases to access undisclosed information. This may include numerous items including private customer details, user lists, or sensitive company data.

Denial of Service (DoS)

Denial of service (DoS) floods a targeted computer or network with information that triggers a crash, causing it to be inaccessible for users. DoS attacks often target web servers of organizations such as trade organizations, media companies, commerce, and banking.

Advanced Persistent Threat (APT)

Advanced persistent threat (APT) uses sophisticated hacking techniques in which an intruder accesses a network and remains anonymous for a prolonged period of time. APT attacks are initiated to steal data from organizations such as national defence, manufacturing and the financial industry.

Top 7 Universities to Study Nursing in Regional areas, Australia

Sharing is caring :)

Studying abroad with a degree in Skilled Occupation List (SOL) has become an ideal option for non-Australian students since this move is a great start for those who aim to gain Permanent Residency (PR) in Australia. The typical eligible skilled occupations are Health Care, Accounting, Engineering, etc. However, the journey of getting PR has been more challenging and competitive these days due to the increased volume of international students graduating with a degree in SOL. Therefore, most international students decide to study in a designated regional area from the beginning, which allows them to gain extra 5 points on the Migration Point Test.

We have come up with the list of Top 7 Universities to Study Nursing in Regional Australia in this article!!!

What is Regional Australia?

Regional Areas are purely understood as rural areas where the availability of goods, transportation systems, employment opportunities, and means of entertainment are limited. However, according to the Department of Home Affairs, from 16 November 2019 onwards, all areas of Australia except capital cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane are counted as regional areas.

Why study Nursing in Regional Areas?

1. Benefits on Visa Pathways

  • Briefly, the regional areas give students a chance to claim additional points compared to those who are studying in non-regional areas. Completing at least 1 degree, diploma or trade qualification that meets the conditions of Australian Study Requirement while living in an eligible regional area in Australia, you will add on extra 5 points on your skilled list.
  • International graduates with a bachelor or higher qualification from regional campuses will be eligible to access an additional 1-2 years on a post-study work visa. Studying in regional areas, you will probably have more time to find a job and prepare for PR than the other graduates who studied in capital cities.

2. Career Opportunities

  • The Australian government is encouraging migrations to make a regional move because of the lack of skilled workers in these areas. There are many regional towns actively seeking international workers to fill their occupations
  • While studying, you will be prepared to work in various environments such as hospitals, communities, schools, travel agencies, sporting clubs, research organisations in urban, rural, and remote areas. The opportunities to experience different workplaces will allow students to expand their skills set and be highly successful in their postgraduate journey.

3. Lower cost of living

The cost of living in regional areas are relatively cheaper compared to capital cities. You can save approximately AUD$ 5000 per year if you start your student life in regional Australia. Further than that, compared to the metropolitan cities, both rental and purchasing housing prices are lower in regional areas. The dream of owning a house in Australia is not daydreaming.

General entry requirements for Bachelor of Nursing in Regional Australia

Study Interior Design in Australia (2020)

Sharing is caring :)

What is Interior Design about?

Interior designing combines Art and Science to achieve aesthetically pleasing environments. It focuses on  enhancing the interior of a building, therefore, this profession includes a lot of research, site inspections, programming, space planning, construction management and executing designs.

An Interior Designer is someone who plans, researches and manages such projects. Typically, they work with clients to create aesthetic spaces. Their work can range from a simple indoor/outdoor home environment to designing spaces for offices and hotels.

Interior Design vs Interior Architecture vs Interior Decoration

These titles may seem confusing because they are quite similar to one another. However, there are a few differences between each of them.

  • Interior Architecture – Interior architects focus on the technical and structural aspects of a building. Those in this field would be involved in projects very early on, before the building is constructed.

  • Interior Decoration – Decorators focus on furnishing interior spaces with furniture, paintings, and other accessories. They are concerned with the art side of design and less with science.

Despite the different titles, over the years, many Interior designers have become more involved with architectural and technical aspects of Design. Therefore, many Interior design courses have been renamed as Interior Architecture. As a result, these courses now reflect the structural and technical elements of buildings, which has blurred the line between Interior Design and Interior Architecture.

If you are interested to know more about Interior Design, do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

What skills do you need to become an Interior Designer?

Becoming an Interior designer is not an easy task. It is time consuming and requires a great level of patience. But most importantly, you should pursue this career if you are someone who is passionate about design, is creative and has the ability to think outside the box. Being an interior designer is challenging and it can get very difficult if you are not open-minded and innovative with styles and other trends. Let’s take a look at a few of the other important skills required in order for you to excel in this field :

  • Strong Communication Skills : As a designer you will meet with your clients on a regular basis, therefore, it is essential to communicate effectively and listen attentively. After all, you have to design what they require. In addition, you would have to present your designs, sketches and other material to your clients and communicate with contractors and suppliers to get the material you need.

  • Problem Solving Skills : Projects don’t always go as planned. You are likely to have certain problems along the way. It could be unexpected delays or expenses and changes in renovation ideas. On top of all of that, clients may change their vision which would require you to change interior plans and adapt to certain situations along the way.

  • Creativity : The most part of being successful in this field is to use your creative skills. Interior design is not like staring into a white wall or a blank canvas, it requires you to see what others don’t see or what the space could turn into. It is also necessary for you to keep up with new trends, styles and techniques and apply them to your daily tasks.

Furthermore, Technology is a part of design, more than it was in the past. As an Interior designer, you would have to master Computer-Aided Drawing (CAD), use software’s and 3D plans to present your plans to your clients.

Entry Requirements for Interior Design

  • You are required to successfully complete the SPM examination – Minimum of 3 Credits.
[Some institutions may require you to pass an Art or Mathematics subject]

Upon Successful completion of the SPM examination, you may proceed to undertake a Pre-University Program :

  • A-Level : Minimum of CDD
  • STPM : Minimum of 2C’s
  • Australian Matriculation : Minimum ATAR score of 60
  • Foundation Course : Minimum CGPA of 2.00
  • Diploma : Minimum CGPA of 2.00
  • English Language Requirement : Minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5 with no band lower than 6.0

Take note that Entry Requirements may vary based on the university and it is essential for you to successfully meet the additional requirements.

To know more about which Pre-University program is suitable for you, take a look at : Which Pre-Uni should you choose? Foundation, A-Level, SAM or AUSMAT?
