Top reasons to study Nursing in Australia

If you are someone who enjoys making a difference in people’s lives for the better, consider making nursing as a career! Nursing is a highly respected and trusted profession, filled with many opportunities and rewards. The following are a few reasons and benefits of why choosing Nursing as a career might be the most suitable option for you.

  • Growing Demand for Nurses

Nursing is a profession showcasing continuous growth and demand. Healthcare workers have always been welcomed into Australia. As of recent, nurses are particularly in high demand. This is due to the population growth of Australia which has more than doubled over the last 50 years and is expected to continue year on year. This has led to a shortage of skills in the healthcare sector. As a result, the federal government has increased spending on public hospitals, thereby, expanding their health offering as well as building a number of new hospitals.

Therefore, the upcoming hospitals require qualified and skilled staff members which is now driving up the demand for nurses in the country. With the increasing demand, higher wages, benefits and better work environment are to be expected.

  • Nursing is a Diverse Profession

The profession is dynamic and diverse with room to grow professionally. Most people think nurses are constricted to working only in hospitals. However, in addition to hospital nursing there is a variety of practice settings available for nurses : Ambulatory care centers, Public health agencies, independent practice, long-term care facilities and more. Upon receiving a nursing qualification, you can continue to progress professionally in the field. You can start off as an Assistant in Nursing and after you gain enough experience, you could become a Registered nurse, nurse practitioner and there onward aim to become a Nurse Manager. Based on the level of education and qualification obtained, you can pursue a change in the work environment, focus areas, or location.

  • Flexible Working Schedules in Nursing

Nurses have the option of choosing the type of schedule that fits with their life, without losing out on opportunities, job security and pay. Since Nursing is a 24 hour service with rotating shifts, you can choose whether to work at night, day or over the weekends. This is one of the greatest perks enjoyed by nurses around the world. This is extremely appealing to those who aim to pursue higher education in the field, such as advanced degrees or any other additional certification. This will enable nurses to have a flexible scheduling system.

  • Nursing is a Well Respected Profession

Nurses are essential to the health care system as they improve the lives of patients every day. Nursing is seen to be a profession that is ethical, honest and trustworthy as it is required in the field of healthcare. They are the key link between Doctors and patient. It is true that doctors overlook and manage the overall healthcare plan, however, nurses are also there to implement it. Nurses interact with patients the most, therefore, they are in the best position to inform others about the patient’s safety and needs.
