What are MQA Accredited Programs?

MQA Accredited Programs are programs offered by both public and private universities in Malaysia that are accredited academic programs provided by educational institutions by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). MQA programs are practices to ensure the quality of Malaysia’s higher education. Generally to get into MQA accredited programs; you would need to meet a minimum requirement of 3C’s for Diploma Programs and 5C’s for Pre-University programs such as A-Levels, Foundation, AUSMAT, SACE and many more.

If you have failed your SPM, you will NOT meet the minimum requirement to gain entry into any public or private universities for MQA Accredited Programs. If you wish to, you would have to retake SPMto fulfill the minimum requirements of either 3C’s or 5Cs.

What are BTEC programs?

BTEC Programs are known as the “Business and Technology Education Council”. It is an internationally recognized specialized work-related qualification. BTEC Programs have increasingly become popular among students as an alternative to A-Level programs. In comparison to typical tertiary education course structures – BTEC programs are designed in a way where practical learning is incorporated into theoretical learning. BTEC at Levels 1 and 2 are equivalent to GCSEs and Level 3 equivalents to A-Levels whilst Level 4 -7 hold the same levels as a typical Bachelor’s Degree. BTEC programs are assessed mainly via coursework and practical projects.  BTEC Programs are a UK based learning system where you will be provided with two options upon completing the 2 year program: i) you can directly enter the workforce with your diploma OR ii) you can proceed to study abroad for a degree from a recognized university! However, do keep in mind that BTEC Programs are not MQA Accredited!

Benefits of BTEC Programs

1. Vocationally focused

In comparison to typical diploma programs, BTEC programs’ course structure is built in a way where it focuses on vocational training. Hands-on experience and learning from industry leaders increase your chances of employability upon graduation as this form of education can ensure that students develop the skills that the labour markets are looking for.

2. Fast track to employment

BTEC programs are way shorter than most degree courses which will enable students to dive into employment right after graduation. Besides a short time to graduate, BTEC programs are also known to be cheaper than most degree courses. With a BTEC you can become a professional worker, entrepreneur or go to a top university in the United Kingdom to further pursue your Bachelor’s Degree.
