Graphic Design
Let’s understand what is graphic design. A simple explanation to the concept is that graphic design is the art or skill of combining text and pictures in advertisements, magazines, or books. A graphic design is not merely associated with drawing and painting, it is about the organisation and presentation of information developed through a creative process for a particular function. A graphic design is used as a tool to deliver and spread the ideas and messages worldwide. With the advancement of technology, the tools for graphic design are not limited in paint brush and pencil, it also included cameras, printers, and computers.
What kind of skills do you need?
Good Verbal Communication
Although visual plays a major role in design, there is still the need for verbal communication. In a normal workplace, you would need to communicate your ideas verbally to others, deliver the core concept and allowing others to fully understand it.
Basic Drawing & Sketching
Sometimes, an art is unable to be interpreted clearly through verbal communication. Therefore, drawing a rough sketch to render your imagination fast and bring your initial ideas, allowing others to know the general ideas that you had in your mind.
What skills do you acquired in university?
Research Skills
Any creative idea comes from a source, no matter if it has to be an emotion, experience, or etc. Knowing more things allow you to be more inspired and generate ideas easily. At the same time, you would know how to do proper research, discover new ideas, and expanding your knowledge.
Software skills
Nowadays, majority of the design rely on software to get the work done, software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign could be handy skill in your career path if you know how to master it completely. The more proficient you are at these programs, you will be able to generate and deliver your design with much easier and faster.
