Architecture Vs. Engineering: Which One to Choose?

Sharing is caring :)

Architecture and engineering are both involved with designing and constructing a building of sorts. Whether it is a house, a shopping complex, an office building, you can bet that an architect and engineer was involved in the process. So what is the difference between the two? What do they have in common, and what makes them unique from one another? Only by understanding the difference between architecture and engineering will you know which course will best cultivate your interests.

Architecture

Engineering

What Is It?

Architecture is concencered with planning, designing, and supervising the developments of the buildings or other physical structures. While it is often misconstrued by people, architects are not merely responsible for the design of the structure. Architects also have to consider the realistic features of their designs, such as the technology, cost, and so forth.

Engineering deals with applying mathematical and scientific knowledge to the structure in order to develop the designed building. Engineering in itself contains a wide variety of disciplines. However, its discipline that is most related to the field of architecture would be civil engineering, as this deals specifically with the technical and structural aspects of construction

What Will You Do?

Architects are trained to allocate space for usage, ensure the safety and practicality of the building, all while maintaining an aesthetic appeal.

They also need to ensure that the space they design are functional and safe.

Engineer’s main responsibility is to establish the safety of the design and ensure that it meets the appropriate building codes. They are concerned with determining the electrical, air conditioning, ventilation, and plumbing aspects of the building.
