Top 10 High-Paying Industries in Malaysia 2022

Sharing is caring :)

One of the elements that students consider while choosing a course to study is future prospective employment demand and income. And for students who plan to continue working in Malaysia after their graduation, you must be wondering, what are the highest-paying industries in Malaysia? According to the recent FMT Media article, we have compiled a list for your reference!

1. Education

The first on the list might come as a surprise to you! People working in the education industry earn the highest compared to others. From pre-primary to secondary, general, and vocational education, including those who work in support positions such as educational consulting, counselling, testing assessment, and student exchange programmes. The education industry paid some of the highest pay in Malaysia, with a monthly earnings average of RM5,088.

2. Mining and quarrying

The mining and quarrying industry earned the second-highest wages in Malaysia, despite the fact that it is believed to be in decline. In a sector that emphasizes natural resources like petroleum, natural gas, metal ores, stone sand, and clay, an individual may earn RM5,064 per month.

3. Information and Communication

With the constantly developing and improving technology, the information and communication industry is one of the biggest industries in terms of employment in Malaysia. Publishing, motion picture, audio, and television production; sound recording; music publishing; broadcasting and programming operations; telecommunications; computer programming; consultation; and other information services earned an average monthly compensation of RM4,310.

4. Finance, Insurance and Takaful

Selling insurance may be a lucrative business, with relatively high-paying commissions and a high degree of freedom with flexible work hours. However, it is not a simple task. Customer rejection, stress, and attrition are all likely to be high. Individuals in this field earned an average of RM4,221 per month for providing financial, insurance, takaful, and pension-fund services to the general public.

5. Public Admin, Defence and Social Security

Government employees earned around RM4,146 per month to create and interpret laws and regulations, as well as to manage government services in the legislative, taxation, national defence, public order and safety, immigration, foreign affairs, and social security sectors. With a strong rate of salary increase and the appealing fringe benefits, the long-held belief that government workers only make average pay is totally untrue.

6. Health and Social Work

Working in the health and social work industry is not an easy job, requires you to have empathy and be understanding towards the patients. For services in hospitals, specialist medicine, medical nursing homes, mental hospital institutions, rehabilitation centres, and other facilities that provide diagnoses and medical treatment, employees in the health and social work sectors, including those who offer counselling, welfare, and advice to the elderly, disabled, refugees, and other disadvantaged groups, they were paid around RM4,075 per month.

7. Professional, Scientific and Technical

After going through half of the list, you must be wondering what about the professional? How much is the lawyers or engineers getting paid? Well, the professional, scientific, and technological industry, which includes occupations in legal and accounting, management consulting, architecture and engineering, science research and development, advertising and market research, and veterinary and other activities, paid an average monthly pay of RM3,959.

8. Power and Air Conditioning Supply

The category of essential utilities is of great importance in our lives. Technicians who provide, distribute, and operate electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning, when compared to other industries, it sure is a riskier job. With the lowest number of employees among the industries, the average pay for power and air conditioning supply was RM3,595.

9. Real Estate

The pay in the real estate industry took a big hit because of the pandemic. Real estate used to be one of the highest-paying industries that everyone was eager to join. Well, the truth is that people who work in the real estate industry these days, only make around RM3,570 each month. This includes lessors, agents and brokers who sell, buy, rent, manage and appraise the property.

10. Arts, Entertainment and Recreation

Good news for all the art lovers out there! As the second-fastest growing industry, arts, entertainment and recreation has a 5.9% average income growth before being severely impacted by the pandemic. Those working in creative arts and entertainment, libraries, archives, and museums, and sports, amusement, and recreational activities earned an average monthly pay of RM2,665.

With the list above, we hope to assist students in selecting a course with high employment demand and pay. Here are some university recommendations and also its popular courses.
