Sharing is caring :)

Congratulations! You have decided to pursue the university programme you’ve been dreaming of all this while. But wait! Before you proceed any further, be sure to check if the MQA has in fact accredited the course.

This may be a term you have heard from time to time. This may also be the first time you’ve heard of MQA. Not to worry! In this article, we will be providing a comprehensive walkthrough of what MQA Accreditation is and how important it is when deciding on which course you should pursue.

What is MQA Accreditation?

Let’s get this out of the way. The Malaysia Qualifications Agency (MQA) was built under the Malaysian Qualifications Act in 2007. The purpose of this statutory body is to control Malaysian universities’ accreditation status and the framework upon which their curriculum are made from. It also works by way of setting standard operational standards in these learning institutions. The importance of MQA eventually comes down to ensuring that the quality of education students receive from their university is up to both global and national standards.

With that said, it is highly recommended to find out if the course offered by the university of your choice is accredited by the MQA. The only way to gain accreditation for a course is for universities to apply on MQA and meet the set criteria.

How Important is the MQA Accreditation When Choosing Your University/Course?

Perhaps now you may be wondering if an MQA accreditation on your course affects you at all. The fact is, it does. There are several reasons why you should check if your choice of university or programme is accredited. These are stated in the following list found below:

  • You Will Be Eligible for a PTPTN Loan

College and university fees can be costly. For some, it can be particularly heavy on the family’s finances. It is for reasons such as this is why PTPTN loans can come in handy.

Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN) is a government institution that provides monetary loans for university students. As to whether it is a full tuition fee or partially depends on a case-by-case basis. With the PTPTN loan, you can loosen your financial burdens in order to pursue your degree programmes and gain a pathway into the career of your choice.

If you are in need of financial support for your tertiary education, it is important for you to be in an accredited course/university so that you may apply for a PTPTN loan.

  • You Have a Future Working for the Government

If your future career is involved with governmental work, an MQA accredited course is necessary for you. Moreover, it is also required in other professional industries. Should your career path be directed towards law, engineering, medicine, and architecture, do take a moment to check if the course has been accredited by the MQA.

  • The Quality of Your Education is Guaranteed

Nothing better than knowing that you are receiving the best quality of education, right?

By pursuing a course or entering a university that has already been accredited for by the MQA, you can be rest assured that the quality you will be receiving is of high standards and is in compliance with the Malaysian Qualifications Framework.

Additionally, this can be particularly beneficial for your postgraduate studies, should you choose to pursue them.

How to Check if Your Course is Accredited

There are ways for you to check online if the course you are seeking to pursue has an MQA accreditation. To check this you may: –
