What is Cyber Security?

Types of Internet Attacks

  • Malware Attack

Malware is a shortened combination of the term Malicious Software. A malware attack is capable of destroying, stealing, erasing, corrupting, or damaging data and information, mainly with the intent to sabotage.

  • Virus

A virus is a type of malware which could be installed in the users’ device through a file or a document. Once opened, it could disrupt the operation of the device’s system causing programmes to either run or close unwantedly without warning.

Ransomware Attacks occur when cybercriminals threaten to withhold or publicise data, such as personal information, in exchange for payment of ransom. IBM states that ransomware is one of the most common cybercrimes.

  • Spyware Attack

Spyware Attacks are malware which could secretly run on your device providing information, such as passwords or financial information, to the cybercriminal.

  • Adware

Adwares collect data and provide appropriate advertisements to users directing them to websites that potentially downloads harmful malwares into your device.

  • Phishing

Phishing is done typically to steal users’ information or breach data. Common Phishing Attacks could happen when users click on links sent through emails or text messages by seemingly legitimate sources.

  • Man-in-the-middle Attacks

Man-in-the-middle Attacks are equated with the actions of eavesdropping, where cybercriminals discreetly spy on two parties communicating with each other, in order to gain confidential information.

  • Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Attacks

In the simplest way, DDoS Attacks are capable of causing extremely high traffic to a system. Then, it floods and overloads the system, rendering it unusable.
