What is Taxation?

Taxation is known as a compulsory financial charge imposed on citizens by a governmental organization to fund government spending and various public expenditures.

What is the Purpose of Taxation?

Did you know that paying your taxes is known as a vivid duty? It is also a law, for most countries. But, what happens with the taxes you pay annually to the government? Well, taxes are collected to provide a form of revenue source to support the primary activities of the government. The money you pay goes to many places. It functions as a revenue for the services and income that supports the needs of the citizens such as public facilities, militaries and national parks. Tax money is also used in paying the salaries of government workers and helping to support common resources, such as policemen and firefighters that work to serve the government. Taxes also fund government programs that help the poor and the underprivileged in the country.

What are the Types of Taxes?

Common Challenges of Studying Abroad and How to Overcome It

Sharing is caring :)

Studying abroad is not all sunshine and rainbows, it could be a lot of fun, but certainly not easy. For those of you who dream of studying abroad, you should expect some road bumps here and there, but it should not stop you from chasing that dream. Here are five common challenges international students face while studying abroad and how you could overcome them!

Overcoming the Language Barrier

The language barrier is one of the most common challenges of studying abroad, especially when you do not understand their national language. You might need to learn a new language from scratch, or even when you are studying in a country where you could understand their language, the local accent might be a struggle as well. Some slang phrases that are widely used in that country will seem strange to you, but the more you practice, the more comfortable you will become!

You could use some online tools to overcome the language barrier, for instance, Duolingo offers a very helpful language learning program. Do not be afraid to speak to the locals, make an effort to familiarise yourself with the local lingo.

Feeling Left Out

It is normal to feel left out and feel like an outsider especially at the beginning. If you are traveling alone and arriving at your university it might seem that everybody already has their group of friends, and you might feel like an outsider. There will be times when you would just want to stay in your hostel room and not know what to do or where to go, and this is extremely common, it is normal to feel lonely arriving at your new destination.

You should take this opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and approach those who seem to be alone and make conversation, introduce yourself and build your own group. Do not be afraid to be that person to start the conversation!

Getting Used to Currency Differences

Getting used to the currency differences can also be a challenging process for the new international students. You need to get yourself familiarized with the exchange rate and some of the monetary differences. For instance, taxes are included in the price of an item in many countries, but not in Canada and the United States. Having a better understanding of these differences would save you from unnecessary confusion at the cash register.

You can always have an online currency converter application downloaded to your phone. Make sure you find the one that you are most comfortable with and work out a quick conversion system for yourself, so you can mentally compare the prices.

Feeling Homesick

It is extremely normal to feel homesick when you are being far away from your family and friends, who are usually your support network. Living thousands of miles away from them might make you feel isolated, especially when everything around you is so unfamiliar. You will start to miss the things you were not previously aware of how important they were, it could be the sofa in your living room, your annoying yet lovable sibling, and your mom’s cooking.

In this case, joining new clubs in your university might help, try to get involved with new activities and always stay active. You need to connect with people, with the students who are feeling the same, and embrace as much of your new surroundings as possible.

Culture Shock

You would experience some culture shock when studying abroad, each country has its own culture and you may find it difficult to integrate. As a foreigner, you would not know 100% of the host country’s culture, even if you have already done your research. You will make mistakes and may feel awkward but do not feel embarrassed, learn from it, and do not make the same mistake again.

Make friends with at least one local person, try to establish meaningful relationships especially cross-cultural boundaries. Observe the locals and immerse yourself in their culture. You will eventually adjust and can even teach your new friends about your culture

Studying in Australia

Australia is one of the most popular destinations for international students looking to study abroad. There is a long list of reasons behind its popularity, the stunning beaches, the cultural diversity, amazing wildlife, standard of living, and most importantly the high quality of education. There are numerous universities in Australia that provide a wide variety of degrees. The list below includes the Group of Eight (Go8) universities, which are the largest and oldest educational institutions of Australia, with high rankings and strong industry connections.

Study Dietetics Degree in Malaysia

Sharing is caring :)

Ever wondered how significant of an impact food we eat makes on our health? Fascinated with how a simple switch in your diet can help prevent or control health problems? A degree in Dietetics might just be what you’re looking for!

Dietetics is a field of science that studies how food and nutrition affects overall human health. With a strong emphasis on public health, dietetics functions to educate humans on the importance of smart dietary choices in everyday life.

What do dieticians do?

A professional who chooses to work in this field is known as a dietician. As a dietician, your most prominent responsibility would be to provide your clients and patients with customised meal plans for patients with chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity. As an example, a patient with diabetes may come in for a consult where you would be required to provide them with a guide on what they should or should not eat as a diabetic. However, you may also provide advice and guidance to clients without medical conditions- just looking to lead a healthier lifestyle.

Roles and responsibilities of dieticians might include:

  • Collaborating with food manufactures to improve the nutritional quality of prepared meals
  • Researching how dietary changes affect health
  • Improving the understanding and accuracy of food labels
  • Increasing public awareness of nutritional habits and standards
  • Provide medical nutrition therapy or nutritional programs for patients in institutions such as hospitals and nursing care facilities

What’s the difference between a Dietician and a Nutritionist?

Here are the key differences between a Dietician and a Nutritionist:

Nutritionists work with clients in promoting healthy eating habits and a balanced lifestyle to improve the quality of health. Clients that work with nutritionist are generally healthy people, looking for advice and guidance in improving their daily eating habits.

However, Dieticians generally work with clients with serious health issues such obesity, diabetes and eating disorders by offering expert advice on eating habits. They aid their clients in developing the best diet plan to help manage their health conditions.

Skills Needed to Become a Dietician

  • Good communication skills

As a dietician, you must be able to work well with patients and clients to discuss their medical or diet concerns. Similar to doctors, dieticians should be able to communicate efficiently with their patients and clients. You should be able to listen tentatively and answer any questions they may have while soothing their worries or concerns. At times, dieticians may also work with loved ones of their patients.

  • Problem-solving skills

Next, most times dieticians are faced with clients or patients that are looking to solve a problem; either a healthy concern or a medical concern. A dietician would then have  to look critically at problems and come up with effective solutions. A dietitian is responsible for finding solutions to some of the issues that patients may face in today’s age such as not having access to certain types of food or living in a condition that lacks proper kitchen appliances.

  • Compassion & a positive mindset

It is extremely important for you to be compassionate with a positive mindset when dealing with patients from different backgrounds with various needs. Health and wellbeing may be a sensitive topic to many people. As a dietitian, you will deal with different patients and their needs can be overwhelming. You will be looked to for guidance and advice for their specific needs. In some cases, you may also be required to build confidence in your patients to help them lead a healthier lifestyle.

What Will You Study In A Dietetics Degree?

A degree in Dietetics will equip you with skills and knowledge required for dietetic practice including the topics of food, human anatomy and nutrition. Generally, you will be learning modules such as physiology, biochemistry, human nutrition, psychology, physiology and nutrition therapy. You will also learn the methods of creating a diet plan for average individuals along with individuals with health conditions.

Some examples of core subjects you would undergo in a Dietetics degree include:

  1. Human Biology
  2. Organic Chemistry
  3. Food Safety and Regulations
  4. Sports Nutrition
  5. Food Service Management
  6. Pharmacology
  7. Medical Nutrition Therapy

You will be generally addressed through a variety of mediums including class tests, practicals, reports, workshops, essay, problem-based learning, projects, presentations, thesis and written examinations.

Upon completing all the modules in your degree, you will be required to undergo practicum for your last year. Typically, your practicum period would consist of rotations between hospitals for clinical dietetics practicum, government and private facility for community nutrition practicum and the food service industry for food service management.

马来西亚前5所顶尖牙科系大学

Sharing is caring :)

Important Questions Students Should Ask About Studying in Malaysia

Sharing is caring :)

Malaysia is undoubtedly one of the most popular study destinations in Asia for many international students. However, before you start your dream course in Malaysia, it is important to ask the right questions and get the necessary information in order to experience an enriching study experience with no regrets.

Below, we have provided for you the most important questions international students should ask about studying in Malaysia and the answers to these questions to help you kick-start your education journey in Malaysia.

1. How to Choose a University to Study in Malaysia?

When choosing a university, the most famous university does not mean it will guarantee you success. You need to choose a university that is the best match for you which will provide you with the skills that you are looking for. Oftentimes, different universities have different entry requirements, course structures and tuition fees, which are some of the crucial things you need to look at.

Some students also like to look at rankings of the university when choosing a university. Although Malaysia does not have an official ranking system, the MQA and Ministry of Malaysia does have a rating system for universities in Malaysia called the SETARA Rating System. So this is also something students could look at before deciding on the university. In addition to this, it is necessary for you to check if the program you are looking to pursue in the university is accredited by the relevant bodies

Campus culture is one of the most important things that can heavily influence your overall study experience. Choosing a university that has an English speaking and a culturally diverse environment can be highly beneficial for you as an international student to make you feel more accepted and at home at your campus. Good thing is most Malaysian private universities offer diversity and a good English speaking environment, so you have many options to choose from!

Choosing the right university for you in Malaysia can take a lot of time and difficult decisions. Hence, talking to counsellors who are experienced in this field can be quite beneficial for you. If you need assistance in choosing a university in Malaysia, do not hesitate to contact Excel Education.

To compare costs of living in different regions of Malaysia, you can visit numbeo.com

5. What are the Student Accommodation Options in Malaysia?

Listed below are the most popular accommodation types in Malaysia for international students.

On campus – On campus accommodation is referred to the hall of residences of student hostels provided  by the university. This is often the most convenient option for international students, due to close proximity to the campus. If you require on campus accommodation it is important to indicate that you require accommodation from the university when accepting your course offer. Most universities offer a range of accommodation options, from single bedrooms, shared bedrooms to even shared apartments. However, you will need to abide by certain rules, for example some on campus stays do not allow students to cook or bring in overnight visitors.

Off-campus (preferred by most students) – A lot of students prefer to rent apartments outside of the university with friends or housemates. Apartments and condominiums usually have 3-4 bedrooms, a living hall, and bathrooms. When choosing a stay off campus it is important for you to check whether there is a mrt/lrt station nearby or even buses to make your daily commute easier. You can search for off campus accommodation from one of the most popular accommodation search websites, iProperty

The rent prices generally fall  between the range of RM600-RM1000 for students in the city of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, if you choose on campus accommodation or choose to share an apartment off campus with your friends.

6. Can International Students Work and Study in Malaysia?

The answer is yes! However international students are only allowed to work part time for a maximum of 20 hours per week ONLY during semester breaks or holidays of more than 7 days at restaurants, mini marts and hotels. Please also note that you are required to get approval from the Department of Immigration beforehand, which has to be done through your enrolled university.

The type of work students can be involved in is also very limited, as the Department of Immigration does not allow students to work as cashiers, singers, or masseurs.

For more information you can refer to Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGs).

7. Can International Students Work in Malaysia After Graduation?

Yes. The first step to gain full employment in Malaysia is to secure a job offer from a company in Malaysia. The employer will then be responsible for getting you a work permit and advising you on the requirements documents which must be submitted in order to process a successful application.

If your application is successful, you are provided with an employment pass which is valid for a minimum of two years and a maximum of 5 years.

However successful completion of the application is not guaranteed as there are several terms to be met in order to be eligible for a work permit, for instance your age and your income. This is mainly because Malaysian government aims to aim and retain talent in the country by prioritizing locals while giving jobs.

8.Can International Students Study Part-Time in Malaysia?
