Important Questions Students Should Ask About Studying in Malaysia

Sharing is caring :)

Malaysia is undoubtedly one of the most popular study destinations in Asia for many international students. However, before you start your dream course in Malaysia, it is important to ask the right questions and get the necessary information in order to experience an enriching study experience with no regrets.

Below, we have provided for you the most important questions international students should ask about studying in Malaysia and the answers to these questions to help you kick-start your education journey in Malaysia.

1. How to Choose a University to Study in Malaysia?

When choosing a university, the most famous university does not mean it will guarantee you success. You need to choose a university that is the best match for you which will provide you with the skills that you are looking for. Oftentimes, different universities have different entry requirements, course structures and tuition fees, which are some of the crucial things you need to look at.

Some students also like to look at rankings of the university when choosing a university. Although Malaysia does not have an official ranking system, the MQA and Ministry of Malaysia does have a rating system for universities in Malaysia called the SETARA Rating System. So this is also something students could look at before deciding on the university. In addition to this, it is necessary for you to check if the program you are looking to pursue in the university is accredited by the relevant bodies

Campus culture is one of the most important things that can heavily influence your overall study experience. Choosing a university that has an English speaking and a culturally diverse environment can be highly beneficial for you as an international student to make you feel more accepted and at home at your campus. Good thing is most Malaysian private universities offer diversity and a good English speaking environment, so you have many options to choose from!

Choosing the right university for you in Malaysia can take a lot of time and difficult decisions. Hence, talking to counsellors who are experienced in this field can be quite beneficial for you. If you need assistance in choosing a university in Malaysia, do not hesitate to contact Excel Education.

2. What are the Minimum Entry Requirements to Study in Malaysia?

As per Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), international students are required to have a minimum twelve years of education with a national or international examination recognized by the Ministry of Education Malaysia, in order to be eligible to apply for diploma or degree programmes in Malaysia.

For international students from non-English speaking countries, you will be required to prove your efficiency in English through English Language Qualifications such as IELTS, TOEFL, MUET, CAE and PTE. The typical IELTS score for international students

4. What is the Cost of Living in Malaysia?

A budget of RM2000/USD500 per month should be sufficient for you to live a comfortable life, and cover all costs including rent and other expenses, in Malaysia as an international student.

According to Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), whether  you choose to live on campus or off-campus, you will find that it is quite possible to live very comfortably within a budget of USD 5,000 per year.

To compare costs of living in different regions of Malaysia, you can visit numbeo.com

5. What are the Student Accommodation Options in Malaysia?

Listed below are the most popular accommodation types in Malaysia for international students.

On campus – On campus accommodation is referred to the hall of residences of student hostels provided  by the university. This is often the most convenient option for international students, due to close proximity to the campus. If you require on campus accommodation it is important to indicate that you require accommodation from the university when accepting your course offer. Most universities offer a range of accommodation options, from single bedrooms, shared bedrooms to even shared apartments. However, you will need to abide by certain rules, for example some on campus stays do not allow students to cook or bring in overnight visitors.

Off-campus (preferred by most students) – A lot of students prefer to rent apartments outside of the university with friends or housemates. Apartments and condominiums usually have 3-4 bedrooms, a living hall, and bathrooms. When choosing a stay off campus it is important for you to check whether there is a mrt/lrt station nearby or even buses to make your daily commute easier. You can search for off campus accommodation from one of the most popular accommodation search websites, iProperty

The rent prices generally fall  between the range of RM600-RM1000 for students in the city of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, if you choose on campus accommodation or choose to share an apartment off campus with your friends.

6. Can International Students Work and Study in Malaysia?

The answer is yes! However international students are only allowed to work part time for a maximum of 20 hours per week ONLY during semester breaks or holidays of more than 7 days at restaurants, mini marts and hotels. Please also note that you are required to get approval from the Department of Immigration beforehand, which has to be done through your enrolled university.

The type of work students can be involved in is also very limited, as the Department of Immigration does not allow students to work as cashiers, singers, or masseurs.

For more information you can refer to Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGs).

7. Can International Students Work in Malaysia After Graduation?

Yes. The first step to gain full employment in Malaysia is to secure a job offer from a company in Malaysia. The employer will then be responsible for getting you a work permit and advising you on the requirements documents which must be submitted in order to process a successful application.

If your application is successful, you are provided with an employment pass which is valid for a minimum of two years and a maximum of 5 years.

However successful completion of the application is not guaranteed as there are several terms to be met in order to be eligible for a work permit, for instance your age and your income. This is mainly because Malaysian government aims to aim and retain talent in the country by prioritizing locals while giving jobs.

8.Can International Students Study Part-Time in Malaysia?

Currently, international students are only allowed to enrol for full-time courses in Malaysia. However, since your schedule depends merely on your academic course, you can choose subjects in a way that is more convenient for you, if you want to pursue other hobbies or interests in between.

9. What is the University Application Process in Malaysia?

A. Research course and university

The first step is to obviously research a course and university to study in Malaysia.

B. Submit documents

The second step is to make sure you meet the entry requirements of the course at your preferred university. If you do, and if the tuition fees fit your budget you can proceed with submitting documents for your application. You are also required to pay a specific amount for application fees while submitting your application.

Listed below are the documents Malaysian universities typically require you to submit;

  • Completed Application Form
  • Passport size photograph
  • 1 copy of passport
  • Certified copy of qualification transcripts
  • Application fee

Please note that the pre-arrival medical screening has to be done 3 months prior to your entry in Malaysia and not before that.

C. Receive and Accept Offer Letter

After you have submitted all the documents and paid all the fees required to process your application you will be receiving an offer letter which you need to accept and revert back to the university.

D. Visa Application

Next, you are required to apply for a student pass or student visa which is done through your university. You are required to  submit the following documents for your visa application.

  • Medical report
  • EMGs Student pass processing fee
  • EMGS Medical insurance fee
  • EMGS Medical screening fee
  • EMGS eVAL Fee

Please note that the pre-arrival medical screening has to be done 3 months prior to your entry in Malaysia and not before that.

E. Receive Electronic Visa Approval Letter (eVAL)

The next step is to wait for your eVAL which often takes 3-4 weeks to process after submitting all the documents. Meanwhile, you can track your visa application status through the EMGS website

After you receive your eVAL it is now time for you to book your tickets and start your journey into an enriching experience in Malaysia as an international student.

Sharing is caring :)

什么是A-Levels?

A-level

  1. Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA)
  2. Oxford, Cambridge and RSA Examinations (OCR)
  3. Edexcel (Edexcel Pearson – London Examinations)
  4. Welsh Joint Education Committee (WJEC)
  5. Council for the Curriculum, Examinations & Assessment (CCEA)

A-level?

A-Levels

A-Levels:

A-Levels:

Best Colleges/ Universities to Study Early Childhood Education Courses in Malaysia

Sharing is caring :)

The first several years of a baby is an extremely crucial time in their lives as it’s when they first learn how to interact with others, including peers, teachers, and parents, it’s also the time where their interest will start to develop and stay with them throughout their lives.

It’s a common misperception that early childhood education is only about learning essential skills. But it is much more than that, it’s a time when children learn crucial social and emotional skills and a partnership is formed between the child, parents and teachers. When this is done successfully, it lays the groundwork for continuing growth throughout the child’s education.

What is Early Childhood Education?

Early childhood, defined as the period from birth to eight years old, is a time of remarkable growth, especially with brain development at its peak. During this stage, children are highly influenced by the environment and the people that surround them.

Early childhood education (ECE) is more than just preparation for primary school. Still, it aims at the holistic development of a child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs to build a stable and broad foundation of lifelong learning.

What are the Skills Needed in Early Childhood Education?

CreativityChildren are sponges at this early age, but they are also new to learning. Early childhood educators must be able to communicate with young learners on their level, including being able to break complex subjects into easily digestible pieces. They must be able offer details about classroom progress to parents so they are aware of their child’s performance and achievement level. Communication helps parents identify teachable moments in everyday situations and boost their child’s kindergarten readiness.

Communication Skills: Communication is vital as an early childhood educator. Not only on the basis of communicating the progress of children to their parents but they should also be able to understand and communicate with the children on their level

Organizational Skills: While it might look easy taking care of a bunch of kids, managing a classroom of young kids on sugar rush requires more organizational skills than you require. You’ll need to show up with your lessons planned with your props and always be on the lookout for the kids to in case something happens.

Patience: Children are the epitome of the energizer bunny, they’re full of energy and never seem to run out of it. They could be running even when the class is being conducted therefore being an early childhood educator requires a lot of patience.

Why Should You Study Early Childhood Education?

Being around young kids is definitely challenging, as they are not easy to manage. In Early Childhood Education, one has to have the patience as big as a mountain and the dedication and passion of teaching and moulding young minds of the future.

You have a strong bond among children: If you’re someone who does not get tired of seeing children and you absolutely love to be around them every day even when they drive you up to the wall, then early childhood education might be the right path for you.

You want to be shaping young minds: Early childhood educators have a genuine opportunity to make a difference in young lives and influence the younger generation. They get to ensure that children get off a good start in their lives.

You enjoy excellent job security: It’s a great time to consider a career in an early childhood education as it has strong growth and is one of the most in-demand professions among the others.

Career opportunities are endless: There are various professional roles in the industry, so there’s always room for you to grow and challenge yourself in the industry.

What are the Major-Subjects Taught in Early Childhood Education?

Child Development: Refers to the studies of the mental, physical, emotional, social and intellectual development a child goes through from birth till adulthood. Students will learn about effective parenting, teaching and nurturing of children.

Learning and Play: Play-based learning helps a child develop holistically through social-emotional learning, developing confidence and motivation and practising cognitive skills.

Children safety & Nutritional Skills: Early childhood is when children develop lifestyle habits that can lead to good health. Students would learn the importance of healthy eating and strategies to incorporate acceptable health practices into classroom activities.

Language & Literacy: Covers literacy theories as well as strategies for encouraging literacy in young children. Students may also become skilled at identifying problems among children who have difficulty reading comprehension.

Develop Age-Appropriate Curriculum: Learn how to develop lesson plans, activities, and learning objectives relevant to young children. They know methods used by children to organize, retain and recall information.

How Do I Become a Qualified EarlyChildhood Educator?

A degree in Early Childhood Education typically takes 3 years after completing Pre-University (e.g: A- Level, SACE, etc) or Foundation. However, students can choose to go into a Diploma program, which takes about 2 to 2.5 years to complete. Get to know Malaysia; Top 5 Malaysian Inventions of all time

Sharing is caring :)

It’s Merdeka month; August! This month is the month we appreciate our country a little bit more than we usually do. So how about we learn more about Malaysia in this entry?

Malaysians are known for their inventions that has become a basic necessity in our lives worldwide. A lot of people probably have no idea of anything that Malaysian have invented throughout the years that has contributed to our country’s image. You’re about to be in awe!

Top 5 Malaysian Inventions

1. Flash Drive

It all started one day in June 2001, Datuk Phua Khien Seng decided to make a research on flash memory technology during his third year of studying electrical and control engineering a year after his company was established (known as Phison Electronics Corp 2000); we probably will not be able to have a flash drive today if it wasn’t because of that. Imagine that.

Flash drive is defined as a data storage device that utilizes flash memory with an integrated USB interface — known for being removable, rewritable and it’s pocket-sized! It’s definitely much lighter and smaller compared to an optical disk or a floppy disk.

Until today, the flash drive has shipped over 600 million every year all around the globe! Not only that, it has reached USD 1.3 billion sales revenue; who would’ve thought?

Nehemiah walls that are nearly everywhere in Malaysia, the ones you see when you’re driving; they’re used everywhere for a good reason.

A Malaysian Engineer, Ir. Dr. Nehemiah Lee Chee Hai is the one behind the brilliant invention of Nehemiah Walls. Back in the 80’s, he worked at the Reinforced Earth Company. It was during his Master’s degree, he decided to research the design and the concepts– and he came up with a system to create retaining walls.

Nehemiah walls is a type of reinforced soil system that incorporates steel bars and precast concrete blocks. It saves costs, time and is more durable if you compare it to other types of walls. You can’t tell me that’s not efficiency at its best.

The Nehemiah Walls is now used worldwide in other countries — Singapore, Australia and Hong Kong. Impressive, right?

Eager to try new things, he created a water dispenser and successfully obtained Cradle funding worth RM150,000 that made him the owner of about 500 RO water dispensing units around Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya under the brand Good Drink. I mean — how did he do that?
