Sharing is caring :)

(Administrative law)
(Constitutional law)
(Criminal law)
(Municipal law)
(International law)

(Contract law)
(Tort law)
(Property law)
(Succession law)
(Family law)

(Pupillage/Chambering)

Pharmacy vs. Pharmaceutical Science: Which One to Choose?

Sharing is caring :)

Have a passion for helping people? Are you fascinated with chemistry and the human body? Want to pursue your career in the world of specialized drugs? Then, you’ve come to the right place.

BUT, WAIT – confused on the difference between Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science? Read more here to know everything there is to know about both courses before picking the right one for you!

What is Pharmacy?

Pharmacy is the study of specialized drugs as medicine and the right way to use, store, preserve and prescribe it. Pharmacy is known to be a combination of medical science and chemistry – focusing on the discovering, manufacturing, disposal and control of these drugs. The study of pharmacy equips students with the knowledge of drug composition, their adverse effects, interactions with other drugs and toxicity within the human body. Understanding the form of treatment and it’s pathological process is extremely important in this field as you are responsible for the chemicals being digested by humans.

What does a Pharmacist do?

As a Pharmacist, your main roles and responsibilities would include providing advice and  guiding customers in the safest way of consuming these medications whilst informing them of the accurate dosage, potential adverse effects the medication could cause after consumption. Besides, other pathways of pharmacy practice would include the “behind the scenes” of how drugs and medications are discovered and manufactured before they hit the shelves of your neighbourhood pharmacies such as Guardian, Watsons and Caring. Pharmacists are essentials to our community as they ensure the safety and efficacy of drug information being consumed by patients.

What do you study for a Pharmacy degree?

As a Pharmacy undergraduate student, areas of study you will undertake include:

  • Human Anatomy – structure and functions of organs, how the body works, including studies of physiology and biochemistry
  • Drug Disposition – how medicines are discover, manufactured and produced along with how they react in the human body
  • Comprehensive care  – analytical thinking of how to best manage diseases and disorders of patients, able to create the best method of treatment
  • Professional Practice – experience daily life of a pharmacist, learn customer service operations, ethical and legal do’s and don’ts within the context of a pharmacy

Career Opportunities with a Pharmacy Degree

A Pharmacy degree opens up multiple career pathways for you to choose from as you will be able to work  in pharmacies, medical clinics, hospitals, universities, and government institutions!

Keep in mind that upon the completion of your Pharmacy Degree (4 years) – it is compulsory for you to undergo one year of compulsory service training at any location that is recognized by the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia! Between the training period, you are required to sit for an exam – “Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination” before successfully being able to practice pharmacology as a Fully Registered Pharmacist (FRP) which takes around 6 years.

Examples of career opportunities for you once you’ve qualified as a Fully Registered Pharmacist (FRP) includes:

  • Clinical Pharmacist
  • Regulatory Pharmacist
  • Clinical Research Assistant
  • Drug Information Service
  • Pharmacologist
  • Pharmaceutical sales executive

What is Pharmaceutical Science?

Constratingly, Pharmaceutical Science is known to be a subfield of Pharmacy. Pharmaceutical Science in comparison to Pharmacy are like Aviation Engineers in comparison to Pilots. Pharmaceutical Science focuses on the foundation of drug discovery and development. Pharmaceutical science focuses on how medicines work- it’s safety and efficacy, their impact on the body and their effect on the prevention and treatment of disease. Pharmaceutical Science is a very hands-on field for those who are deeply fascinated by the designing, synthesizing, testing and profiling of potential drugs to be used in the world of medicine. The optimization of various properties of existing or potential drugs are of importance to ensure effectiveness and safety upon consumption.

What does a Pharmaceutical Scientist do?

As a Pharmaceutical Scientist, you will be required to apply biological and chemical principles into your work to tweak molecules into becoming whole compounds that will be able to address present or future medical needs. To become an expert in this field, you should have a strong knowledge and passion in all things science especially chemistry and biology.

What do you study for a Pharmaceutical Science degree?

As a Pharmaceutical Science student, areas of study you will undertake include:

  • Medicinal Chemistry–  intersection of chemistry, especially synthetic organic chemistry, and pharmacology and various other biological specialties
  • Pharmaceutical Biotechnology – technology that utilizes biological systems, living organisms or parts of this for the development of drugs
  • Pharmacoeconomics –  the comparison of different pharmaceutical drugs based on value
  • Pharmacogenetics – the study of the presence of genes in the effectiveness of different drugs to the human body

If you’re someone who enjoys working in the lab, this course would be perfect for you as you’d be spending most of your time gaining lab skills.

Career Opportunities with a Pharmaceutical Science Degree

A Pharmaceutical Science degree opens up multiple career pathways for you to choose from as you will be able to work in research facilities. pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and government institutions!

Examples of career opportunities for you once you’ve graduated includes:

  • Research Scientist

How to Earn a Master in Clinical Psychology in Malaysia

Sharing is caring :)

The world of clinical psychology has grown tremendously throughout these years and will continue to grow and evolve due to its focus on the ever-changing needs of human and brand new approaches within the context of mental health.

Are you someone that has an interest in the human mind and behaviour? Do you enjoy working with others? Do you have the natural instinct to help others become better?

A career as a Clinical Psychologist may just be perfect for you!

What is Clinical Psychology?

Known to be one of the largest and most common areas of psychology, Clinical Psychology is the study of a specialty that provides clinical or counselling services to detect, assess and treat various types of mental illnesses including emotional and behavioural disorders. Clinical Psychologists are trained with adequate skills and knowledge to work with a wide demographic of individuals. Becoming a Clinical Psychologist is extremely important in today’s society as you will play a crucial role in showing us how and why we behave the way we do.

What do Clinical Psychologists do?

Clinical Psychologists identify mental, emotional and behavioural problems faced by clients in their daily lives. They conduct psychological tests, observations, interviews in order to diagnose pre-existing disorders or comorbids of a potential one. They will then work with the client in developing the most effective course of treatment, focusing on managing the client’s needs. Clinical Psychologists also conduct follow up sessions with their clients to ensure the improvement of their quality of life along with the effectiveness of the course of treatment, to make changes if needed. Despite many misconceptions, it is important to understand that clinical psychologists are NOT qualified to prescribe medications to treat mental illness.

Roles and Responsibilities of a Clinical Psychologist include:

  • Identify and diagnose psychological, emotional and behavioural issues
  • Develop and implement treatment plans to help improve client’s condition
  • Work alongside client to establish goals of session and plan course of treatment to achieve the goals and needs of patients
  • Monitor client’s progress throughout sessions
  • Conduct research on various treatment approaches
  • Publish research findings in the form of journals to aid future psychologists
  • Creating and administering programs to treat and prevent social problems

What’s the Difference between a Clinical Psychologist, Psychiatrist, and Counselor?

What do you learn in a Master of Clinical Psychology?

Most Master’s programmes offered in private universities focus on research, theory and practicality. You will dive into a wide range of topics that include child & adult development, diagnostic testing, clinical research as well as internal and external practicum. This programme is generally divided into 3 parts for assessment: coursework, research project and practical training. Before completion of your Master’s degree- you will usually be tested for your competency in clinical diagnostic and clinical therapy in diagnosing and treating mental health issues in hands-on, real-world settings.

Clinical Psychologists are able to work in a variety of settings upon completion of a Master’s program. Many graduates move on to work in hospitals, clinics, private centres, universities and even high schools. You will be able to use your expertise in many different contexts for different purposes.

Some of the career pathways that you can perform, besides being a Clinical Psychologist include:

  • Career Counselor
  • School Counselor
  • Counselling Psychologist
  • Family Therapist
  • Marriage Therapist

*Note: Keep in mind that different career pathways chosen may have varying requirements.

Why do you need a Master in Clinical Psychology?

Earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology will only provide you with the foundation that you need, to progress towards becoming a specialized Psychologist. You will need a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology, typically taking 2 years to become a Registered Clinical Psychologist. Many Clinical Psychologists also often progress to earn a doctoral degree which requires an investment of about 6 years. However, certification guidelines to become a Clinical Psychologist vary tremendously depending on the country you wish to practice in.

In Malaysia, Clinical Psychologists are required to register with the Health Ministry under the Allied Health Professions Act to be able to practice. Besides that, you are also advised to register with the Malaysian Society of Clinical Psychology (MSCP) as it means that your training is acknowledged, and that the MSCP would be able to endorse you! Further requirements would be that the member fulfills 1500 supervised hours during his/ her master degree studies, of which 700 are direct hours of work with their clients.

Journalists are said to have very important roles in society as they hold the power of the information being received by the public. They also have a big influence with the news they put out, as it provides society with information on various topics that they use to make decisions about different aspects of their daily life, their communities, their society and the government. Journalism significantly varies from other forms of communications as it focuses on not just the hard facts, but also the truth behind those hard facts. Without journalism, the world would be full of ignorance.

Everyone has their own ideas of what’s right and what’s wrong – but your job is the illustrate the entire picture. You have to report your news from a neutral stance, being objective and stating the facts accurately.

Top Universities to Study Financial Technology (FinTech) Degree in Malaysia

Sharing is caring :)

For those of you interested in technology and finance, the emerging industry of Financial Technology (FinTech) might just be the perfect course for you. Especially, considering the digital times we are living in today. In fact, to cater to the skill gap in financial services, technology application has become a necessary skill for graduates.

With the explosion of the internet and mobile internet, the relevance of Financial Technology (FinTech) has grown rapidly over the years and the traditional accounting and finance industry has been moving towards digital transformation.

Before the Covid-19 Pandemic hit the world, it was quite clear that FinTech would play a crucial role in financial services in the coming years. However, the covid-19 has accelerated that process, and it will not be wrong to say that the future of FinTech is already here.

An industry that was once seen as an industry disruptor and potential competitor in the financial service sector, is now accepted and invested in by many financial giants. With FinTech, financial institutions become more efficient and effective, by providing customers with more variety in choices, increasing transparency and saving much of the time wasted doing financial transactions.

What is FinTech?

When someone says FinTech, online transactions and e-payment is what comes to mind for many. However, this new industry is much more than just that.

Financial Technology (FinTech) is a growing engineering discipline that is essentially about the application of technological innovations into financial services. It was once associated with only financial institutions. However, it has now moved beyond simply just being a feature that is provided by financial institutions as it can now be present in all sectors, with the application of cloud-based technologies that is a combination of open source software and blockchain technologies.

Listed below are the trending areas in FinTech globally:

  • Insurtech
  • Regtech
  • APIs
  • Payments
  • Online Banking
  • Lending
  • Blockchain Crypto
  • Smart contracts

The introduction of digital currencies, crowdfunding, platforms, robot investment advisors, big data analytics and algorithm-driven trending strategies has extremely influenced the way people do payments both online and offline, as well as, store, manage and finance their businesses.

FinTech Growth in Malaysia

There is no doubt that 2020 was a wavering year, with the pandemic that has affected millions of lives, but it has also fueled the growth of the Malaysian fintech industry.

  • Covid-19 has accelerated the the shift to digital transactions

Although Malaysia has been moving towards digital transformation for the past decade, Malaysia’s Government Control Order (MCO) has tremendously accelerated the FinTech space in Malaysia. It aided in adding 3 million new mobile banking service subscribers in 2020 as well as pushing the use of e-wallets and payments. Merchants were quick to notice the trend and join in with over 400,000 new businesses registering for QR code payment which was approximately 164% compared to the previous year.

The e-wallet industry of Malaysia has also matured rapidly with over 40 non-bank providers such as Touch N Go, with 5 million users and 300,000 merchants.

  • Digital finance adoption is on the rise

Digital finance is also booming in Malaysia across different FinTech segments such as e-remittances, wealthtech, and cryptocurrency trading.

  • FinTech Innovation due to regulatory changes

ACCA or CIMA: Which is more difficult?

Both qualifications are equally difficult. However, the demands of completing exams in each qualification may vary. CIMA qualification is slightly challenging as students are required to complete one set of exams at a time to proceed further. ACCA qualification is more flexible in terms of completing multiple sets of exams concurrently. In addition, CIMA exams include case study exams where students are required to present a real-life context. Thus, it can be challenging for students to get through the exams without relevant work experience.
