Scholarships for SPM, IGCSE, A-Level and UEC Students in Malaysia 2021

Sharing is caring :)

Cost is a major factor in the student’s decisions when choosing a university. We understand that the cost of education can have a long-term impact on one’s life, therefore it is important to sort out the budget when making the decision. Scholarships can be a good financial aid option for students to get financial support in their studies, and the best part is they don’t have to be repaid! There are different scholarships provided by different private universities and colleges in Malaysia.

If you have thought of applying for a scholarship but have no idea where to begin or how to apply, this article will give you some ideas and also some recommendations!

Things to consider before applying for a scholarship

1. Do your research

After you have gotten your results, it is time for you to decide on which university to attend, what course to take, and not to forget to look for scholarships to ease your parents’ financial burden. There are various types of scholarships provided by the public sectors, private companies, and universities with their own specific scholarships. It is important to do your research and find out which type of scholarship suits you the best. Because different institutions have different requirements and offer different courses. Feel free to contact us for a free consultation!

2. Be mindful of the closing date

Just like the semester start date and application closing date, scholarship application also has its own deadlines, and it varies depending on the course and the institution. It is important to always be aware of the deadlines for the scholarships you are applying for. Institutions with a high volume of applications are likely to overlook late applications. Therefore it is important to mark the date, so that you will not miss it.

3. What they are looking for

It is essential to know exactly what the scholarship provider is looking for when considering who they will select as the recipient. Some universities require interviews before choosing the right scholarship holder, therefore it is important for you to showcase yourself and articulate why you think you are the best candidate for the scholarship.

Different institutions might require different qualifications. The common ones would be SPM or IGCSE. This article will also talk about the types of scholarships available for different qualifications.

As mentioned above there are different types of scholarships provided by different sectors. In this article, we are giving you a list of scholarships available mainly provided by private universities/colleges.

There’s always hope for everyone! Even if you score only 0-2 credits and pass BM&Sejarah, vocational education training (VET) can be one of your options to pursue your degree. Vocational training is a program that prepares students with the skills and knowledge needed for entering the world of work. Upon the completion of VET, you will receive a certificate that can be applied for a diploma degree.

Berjaya University offers a TVET (Technical and vocational education and training) on Berjaya TVET College. It offers various areas, such as Pastry Production, Web Development, Digital Marketing, and many more.

person-holding-white-scroll-2292837

A certificate program acts as a bridge for students to a diploma degree at the same institute. It’s a 16-18 month program. Here are some of the certificate program in Malaysia:

  • APIIT

– Certificate in Administrative Skills
– Certificate in Information & Communication Technology

After you got your certificate, you are able to pursue your diploma in either APU/APIIT.

– Certificate in Communication Studies

After you got your certificate, you are able to pursue your diploma in IACT college.

Track to a degree: Certificate -> Diploma -> 2nd year Bachelor

If you failed the SPM

There are 2 types of failing SPM:

  • Fail in certain subjects asked by a university

Every university has its own requirements regarding its programs/courses. Certain study area requires more subjects than others. For instance, the course Pharmacy usually requires students to not only got credit in both BM and Sejarah, but also an additional credit in Science/Math. And if you did not meet even one of the requirements, they cannot accept your SPM scores.

So one of the moves that we can recommend is to choose another university/course that suits the scores that you got. There are surely plenty of universities/courses out there that have different requirements.

  • Fail BM/Sejarah

Sadly, there is no direct alternative for those who fail either Bahasa Melayu (BM) or Sejarah. Since 2014, you must pass Sejarah and get a minimum of credit in BM. Here we provide some alternatives if you fail BM/Sejarah:

1. Retake the subjects

With a one year gap, you can allow yourself to prepare more and study harder to be able to ace the test next year. It also allows you to learn from your previous mistakes. The gap year also helps you to give yourself a break before directly dive into the university world.

2. Work

If you don’t feel like pursuing higher education, working can be one of the alternatives. There are plenty of jobs that can suit your skills. If you’re more of a creative person, you can work as a graphic designer freelancer or video editor.

On the other hand, if you’re more of a business-mind person, you can work as a salesperson, customer service, or maybe create your own business!

Best Indoor Jobs That Could Be Your Top Choice

Sharing is caring :)
product-school-XZkk5xT8Xrk-unsplash

When choosing a job, there are a lot of things to be considered, such as;

how much is my salary per month, or;

do I get health insurance, or maybe even;

does my job involve more outdoor or indoor activities?

The first thing that popped into our mind when hearing the word indoor jobs would probably be:

Office, desk, sitting, bored.

But turns out, indoor jobs aren’t just things related to boredness, it also has plenty of advantages for employees, especially for people that are more likely to work in a controlled environment, love to work behind the desk, or hate going outside. Other than having protection from various weather such as rain, wind, or hot sunshine, here are some of the reasons to choose indoor jobs.

Reasons to choose indoor jobs

  • Ease of Communication

The majority of people would prefer face-to-face interaction rather than keeping in touch through email or text.

When you’re working in an office, it is undoubtedly easier to get in touch and communicate with colleagues, employers, and even your seniors. Furthermore, when you’re working on a project with your teammates, it is easier to keep track of the progress, share ideas, and offer a helping hand to others. Thus, reduce the possibility of miscommunication.

  • Expand Your Network

Working in an office allows you to gain the opportunity to know more about the people on your surroundings, thus expanding your network. It is crucial since it allows you to meet more people from different work areas and helps you to understand people better. Moreover, it can develop your relationship with others, from your managers, seniors, to the vendors. Having a large network will boost your interpersonal and communication skills, gain new experiences, and learn something new every day.

  • Personal Space

If you are the type of person that likes to have their own private space, organize your personal things, and need high concentration, then working in an office is perfect for you! You will most likely have your own cubicle with your own personal computer so you can get your work done better and more organized.

  • Time Management

Every office usually has its fixed working hours, lunch, and breaks. If you are someone who is really time-oriented or perhaps someone who struggles to discipline yourself, working in an office would definitely suitable for you. You will not only be able to manage time more efficiently and be more punctual throughout your career, but also sharpen your interpersonal skills.

  • Increase Motivation

When the office is surrounded by hard-working people, you are more likely to be motivated to finish your job better and faster. With the presence of others, it can help you to focus and concentrate more on your job which leads to a positive working environment.

Finding a suitable job for yourself is never easy. If the reasons above sound convincing for you and match your desire, here are the jobs that we think are perfect for you:

1. Programmer

Nowadays, almost every company in any field depends on technology, and this is when a programmer is needed. Being a programmer means you are most likely to deal with writing and testing codes for certain software or operating system. Therefore, mastering several programming languages such as Python, C++, and Java is important for the job.

A degree in Computer Science (CS) or Information Technology can really help you in pursuing your career as a programmer. Most programmers work in the office, although they can actually work anywhere as long as they got their laptop with them.

2. Dentist

2 – Cheapest and affordable cities in Queensland

As a student, one of the biggest worries is the cost of living. This includes tuition fees, accommodation and day to day general expenses. However, Queensland is home to two of the cheapest and affordable cities to study and live in; Brisbane and Gold Coast.

Gold Coast is ranked 1st for affordability in Australia and 84th globally as one of the best student cities. Gold coast is quite similar to Brisbane in terms of affordability, however, it is a little cheaper. Weekly expenditure for a student would range between AU$480-$512. Rent in Gold Coast is 40% lower than that of Sydney and it also has one of the lowest Undergraduate fees in comparison to other Australian cities.

Brisbane is the 4th cheapest city to live in Australia. Living costs are lower than any major Australian cities such as Sydney. It was also ranked 22nd in “Best student cities in 2019”. Students would have to spend around AU$500-$533 a week including rent, food, transport and general expenses whereas, in Sydney it would range between AU$600-$700 per week.

It is also important to keep in mind, that as a student with restricted finances, Queensland is a very reasonable state to live in. It has universities offering top-class education at low tuition fees such as that of Griffith University.

3 – Cultural Diversity in Queensland

Studying abroad allows students to  meet individuals from various countries, backgrounds and cultures. Apart from the sunny, beautiful tourist destinations in Queensland, it is also extremely diverse in culture. Therefore, if you are someone who sees diversity as an important factor in where you’d like to study and live in, then Queensland is the place to be, as you can reap the benefits of a multicultural environment. The state is abundant in different cultures and with people who are not restricted to adopt one particular lifestyle. They are open minded people from different walks of life and enjoy forming friendships that are long lasting. It is very easy to find a wide range of food and activities representing almost any country in the world.

The Government has an incessant need to celebrate cultural diversity and multicultural events. Since Queensland is recognized as a state with a long history of migration, The Queensland Government is committed to ensuring that all Queenslanders can participate and celebrate the society, whether born in or migrated to the state. As a result, they have placed the Queensland Cultural Diversity Policy which focuses on improving and supporting the continued growth of strong culturally diverse communities in the state. Further, $1.3 million was used to fund over 150 multicultural events held throughout the state in 2019 as Queensland is home to people from about 220 different countries who speak over 180 languages and identify with over 110 different faiths.

One city in particular stands out as one of the most diverse student cities based on QS Best Student Cities 2019:

Brisbane – is ranked 9th in the top 10 most diverse student cities in the world since a large number of the student population comes from countries outside of Australia. Thereby, making it one of the ultimate choices for students who are looking to gain a top class education and embrace different cultural experiences.

4 – Part-time work in Queensland

As the 3rd largest Economy in Australia, Queensland is considered a gateway to a wide range of career paths and advantages. It provides a stable and safe environment for International students with a strong economy. Queensland also has an abundance of  service industries and an internationally-renowned tourism industry. Which opens up many career opportunities. The first step to obtaining a permanent employment position is to engage in Volunteering, Working while studying and Vocational placements. This improves work experience and increases the chances of being hired by a suitable employer. Therefore, students can earn while studying.

An added advantage is that apart from greater Brisbane, majority of the cities in Queensland is a designated Regional Area. Therefore, those who are eligible are allowed to apply for a resident visa. The next section will cover all about Regional Areas in Australia.

If you would like to know more about studying in Queensland, do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

5 – Gold Coast is classified as “Regional Area”

Regional Australia was designed by the Australian Government to promote certain areas of the country, especially for immigration purposes. Recently, it was announced that Gold Coast will be reclassified as a regional area in aim to attract migrants and foreign students. This will open many opportunities for  International students who are looking to study and settle down in Queensland or other regional areas in Australia. Gold Coast is looking for skilled migrants for occupations that have been identified as being a shortage in the area. Gold coast or any other regional area in Queensland is an attractive place to study and there onwards continue to live, due to the high standard of living and working conditions.
Students who study in a regional area such as Gold Coast will benefit when applying for Skilled Visa as they will be awarded extra points in the system:
Extra 5 points in the Skilled visa points grid for studying in a regional area
Extra 1 years for the graduate 485 Visa.
